Bidayat al-Mujtahid Wa Nihayat al-Muqtasid

The Distinguished Jurist's Primer

Collated over twenty years, the renowned Islamic Law book by Ibn Rushd, بداية المجتهد و نهاية المقتصد,  is on خلاف; a subject which seeks to compare the differences among Muslim jurists and hence Islamic Law.

Its author states that the primary purpose of this book is to equip the reader with essential skills, enabling them to become a competent jurist in their own right. One who can themselves derive the law from its sources.
Moreover, the book is unique in Islamic Literature as it avoids bias, making it a powerful tool for legal instruction. Throughout his book, Ibn Rush systematically analyses the methodology of all jurists and schools equally, being critical of even his own school.

An in depth understanding of this book will therefore give the reader an insight into comparative Islamic Law and the skills to becoming an independent jurist.
